Where's the Math!?

HEY MATHEMATICIANS!

We are so excited to be able to interact with you here on our website!  Check out the picture below and tell us about the math you see.

We can't wait to read all of your wonderful mathematical thinking!

Check back each week because there will be a new picture!

I think the top left does not belong because the bottom brick is not a 4-2.

Interesting observation, Jayan. I wonder if you can explain your thinking more? Could you also find another reason one of the other sets of Legos doesn't belong!

The top left picture does not belong because it's bottom layer is thinner.

Hi Charlotte! You're right... I didn't even notice that difference at first!

Top left because it uses different shapes.

I like your thinking, Zander. What shapes does the first picture have that the others do not?
Keep up the great work!

I think that the bottom left picture does not belong because it does not have any red blocks on the stack. I also think that the bottom right picture does not belong because it is not stacked like the others.

Great thinking, Will. Both of those could be "the one" that doesn't belong for the reasons you listed. Great job explaining your thoughts!

The top left does not belong because the bottom piece is not as big as the others.

Hi Jake! I agree with you... but could you think of a different descriptive word for that Lego besides "big"? :)

The one on the top left does not belong because it has a thinner bottom block.

I think that the top right also does not belong because it is all one color and the others are all more than one color.

The top right doesn't belong because it is all one color, but the others aren't.

First I think the bottom left doesn't belong because it has no red.
Next I think the top right doesn't belong because it doesn't have blue or green.

Great thinking, Aiden! You're right. The bottom left has no red and all the rest do. That would be the reason it does not belong.
A separate answer could be that the top right doesn't belong because it doesn't have blue and green bricks and all the rest do.
Keep up the great work!

I think the top left because the bottom of the lego is thinner then the other ones. plus I think the bottom left is different because it is the only one that dosent have any red. Now I think that that the top right is different then the other because it is the only one that is all the same color . I think the bottom right is the only one that should be in.

The bottom right doesn’t belong because it is short and not tall like the others.

1. Top right does not belong because all blocks are RED and the other three have multiple colors.

2.Top left does not belong because it has a different size rectangle base. The other three have the same size rectangle base.

3. Bottom left does not belong because it does not contain any red blocks and the other three do.

4. Bottom right does not belong because it only has two rows of blocks and the other three have three rows.
