Where's the Math!?

HEY MATHEMATICIANS!

We are so excited to be able to interact with you here on our website!  Check out the picture below and tell us about the math you see.

We can't wait to read all of your wonderful mathematical thinking!

Check back each week because there will be a new picture!

A few differences in the picture are #3 isn't shaded in yellow like the others.

#1 has only 3 sides while the others have 4

The shape in the bottom left does not belong because it is not shaded and the other three shapes are.

The first shape, the triangle, does not belog because it only has 3 sides and the rest has 4 sides.

0ne is a triangle and all the others are rhombus .One of the rhmbuses is not shaded yellow.

The triangle because it doesn't have 4 sides like the rest.

The diamond doesn’t belong because it is not solid.

The triangle doesn’t belong because it does not have four sides and four angles.

the triangle doesn't belong because it is not a quadrilateral.

So you think the one that doesn't belong is the unshaded, rhombus? I agree! Nice job, Ryan.

Amir, I love that you studied the sides and corners. I'm seeing pointed corners on each shape. I wish we could chat so I understand your thinking some more. You have such great thinking!

Triangle is the only one with 3 sides. The diamond is the only one that isn't the same color.

3 of them don't belong an example is:
the triangle does not belong because it has 3 vertices not 4 like the other shapes.

First the top left corner is not a diamond.
Next the bottom left is not filled in.

Nice job, Aiden! The top left is a triangle. And you're right, the bottom left could also be the one that doesn't belong because it's the only one not shaded in. Way to go!

The diamond does not belong because it's the only one that isn't colored in yellow.

Also, the triangle doesn't belong because it only has three sides while the others have four sides.

Also, the square does not belong because it is the only one that can't fit inside the diamond.

The triangle does not belong because it has 3 sides and the others have 4 sides. The diamond has blue inside of it and the others are green inside.

3 of the shapes are quadrilaterals with 4 parallel sides and one is not, it is a triangle with 3 sides.

I think the diamond doesn't belong because it is the only one facing the right way. also the diamond doesn't belong because it is not colored in the others are colored in.

I love your thinking, Isabel! I'm curious what you mean about the shapes facing the right way. Think about this, when you turn around, or do a cartwheel or somersault, does that change who you are? Do you think shapes change when they are facing a different direction? This is such a great math conversation. I can't wait to talk more about this with you when I see you again soon!
Also, I agree with your thoughts about the one shape not being shaded in. Keep up the wonderful thinking!
